Course Description:

Continuing practice translating popular texts (journalism, popular science, advertising) from French to English, with and without computer tools. Mastering the principles, concepts, and skills required to identify and overcome translation challenges, with an increasing focus on ensuring consistency with the source text.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Professional-level language skills in English (active) and French (passive).
• Master’s degree in Translation or Translation Studies, membership in a recognized association or order of professional translators in the French to English language combination, and/or equivalent academic and professional experience.
• Extensive professional experience as a French to English translator, preferably in Canada.
• University-level teaching experience is an asset

Duties:

• Deliver lectures and manage classroom activities and assessments mainly in English, occasionally in French.
• Build and maintain a site for the course in the university’s learning management system.
• Select source texts appropriate to the levels of students and course learning outcomes.
• Provide detailed feedback and suggestions in translation-oriented exercises and assessments to help students develop translation and critical thinking skills.
• Integrate discussions of and/or exercises with appropriate technological tools in the course content, with reference to selected technologies and resources provided by the School.
• Coordinate with the Chair/Program Coordinator and colleagues to maintain program learning outcomes and coherence, while maintaining academic freedom
