
Mō te tūranga | About the role
As an Asphalt Paving Operator in Palmerston North, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality surfacing works across a range of projects, from roads and car parks to other paved surfaces. You’ll operate specialist plant and machinery, help deliver work safely and efficiently, and pitch in where needed to keep the job moving. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in quality, backs their team, and is ready to do Good Work with serious standards and a down-to-earth crew. Travel and periods of working away are part of the role.
Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities
Operate paving machinery, including asphalt pavers, skid steers and other related equipment.
Carry out plant pre-starts and machinery checks, including tyres, oil, grease and general condition.
Maintain equipment in a presentable condition and support accurate plant maintenance records.
Attend and take part in pre-start meetings, understanding hazards and health and safety risks.
Follow all safety, environmental and quality requirements, and push pause when something is not right.
Undertake general labouring duties when required to support the team and meet project timeframes.
Work closely with paving crew members, including labourers, forepersons and supervisors, to deliver quality outcomes for customers.

Proven paving experience, including experience with compacting asphalt.
A full Class 1 licence, with WTR endorsements.
Class 2 licence is an advantage, but not essential.
Mechanical aptitude and a methodical approach to work.
An ownership mindset when it comes to the care and maintenance of machinery.
Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
Reliable timekeeping and a strong work ethic.
A practical, proactive attitude and the ability to think ahead.
A team-focused approach, with respect for others and pride in a job done well.
A strong commitment to safety, wellbeing and doing things the right way.
