Job Description:

The AVP of General Insurance Underwriting is a key leader responsible for developing and implementing industry-leading underwriting strategies to achieve excellent financial results and high standards across all General Insurance. This role reports to the VP of Product, Pricing and Underwriting, and manages all aspects of underwriting operations, ensuring strong governance and strict compliance with guidelines and underwriting appetite. The AVP fosters teamwork focused on customer service and risk management, collaborating closely with other departments including Claims, Product, Pricing, Risk, and Technology to meet business objectives and regulatory requirements. The AVP General Insurance Underwriting emphasizes talent development, quality assurance, and operational efficiency to promote ongoing improvement.

Individual Accountabilities

• Create and deliver best in class GI operational underwriting strategies that drive financial performance and underwriting excellence
• Responsible for underwriting operations for all General Insurance business including Mass Market, High Net Worth and Small Business Insurance
• Oversight and leadership through effective planning, forecasting, and reporting of GI Underwriting Operations
• Maintain an effective training and coaching program to continually raise the bar on underwriting excellence
• Creation and maintenance of feedback loops to front line agents and upstream teams including supporting the creation of training materials and training plans
• Maintains ongoing collaboration between claims, pricing and product teams to ensure actions are taken to improve underwriting quality as needed
• Responsible for maintaining underwriting appetite statements, underwriting and front-line authority statements, and maintaining a robust governance process ensuring that underwriting controls are appropriately designed and operating effectively
• Responsible for monitoring and reviewing quoting, binding and renewal processes to make sure UW guidelines are respected
• Own the final decision about approving or declining a risk within the overall business strategy and underwriting appetite
• Owns the post implementation monitoring of UW implementations to reduce potential risk events in partnership with technology and controls team
• Involvement in regulatory change and other strategic initiatives including system requirements, testing and input into customer and front-line communications
• Maintains dedicated underwriting functions for specialized risks including support for customer escalations, claims escalations, E&O decisions and collaboration with fraud on investigations and initiatives
• Deliver legendary customer service and promote an underwriting culture within TDI

• HNW, Commercial - partnership to support business strategies and underwriting rigor

Capabilities

• 10+ years underwriting experience, including underwriting leadership
