Overview of approaches and tools used for managing, evaluating, and promoting quality in health care. Emphasizes the importance of context and stakeholder engagement in quality improvement and performance management initiatives. Topics include: important key theories and concepts related to quality; patient safety measures and practices; performance management; evidence-based management; and quality improvement strategies.

Requirements:

Must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in an area directly related to the course and health care management; or a Canadian baccalaureate degree or its international equivalent with substantial managerial or professional training and experience in health care settings (normally = 5 years), provided there is strong evidence of management and leadership responsibilities and career progression. Given the specificity of the course in health care quality, having experience as a director of a quality/patient safety department or health care entity is a definite asset. Exceptionally, pending approval by a Program Director, substantial managerial or professional health care training and experience (normally 10 years and more), provided there is strong evidence of health care management and leadership responsibilities and career progression in health care organizations.

The course will be co-taught by 2 part-time professors (1.5 cr./ 1.5cr.)
