A Brief Overview
The Medical Assistant performs routine delegated clinical patient care duties in the health system medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure the office runs smoothly. The delegated tasks are within the supervising physician's scope of practice and consistent with the medical assistant's education, training, and experience.
Must be willing to rotate if needed to other Care Network sites within the designated cluster.
What you will do
- Perform administrative duties including answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patient medical records using electronic and paper systems, scheduling appointments, arranging laboratory services, and performing other administrative duties as directed.
- Assist medical and nursing staff with clinical duties such as obtaining and recording physical measurements, documenting medical history data, vital signs and pain screens, identifying patients in distress, utilizing infection prevention procedures, assisting physicians during examinations and procedures, collecting and preparing lab specimens, performing basic lab tests, sterilizing medical instruments, reinforcing patient education, preparing and administering medications as directed, preparing patients for x-rays and tests, performing electrocardiograms, and demonstrating commitment to patient safety.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- Technical Diploma Medical Assistant Program Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- Experience in a medical office setting preferred
- At least one (1) year of work experience preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of exam, diagnostic and treatment room procedures
- Ability to maintain quality control standards
- Ability to read, understand and respond to detailed oral and written instructions
- Communication skills to react clearly and calmly
- Working knowledge of sterile techniques, procedures, sanitation, personal hygiene, infection control, and safety precautions
- Ability to perform care according to age specific competencies
- Effective documentation and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team and maintain good relationships with patients and clinic staff
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent certifications required within 3 months of employment
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within 3 months
Salary Range: $20.55 - $25.69 Hourly (for full-time jobs, pro-rated for part-time)
