Job Summary
The CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates CT scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This equipment includes scanner, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment.
Major Responsibilities:
- Examine requests and verify orders on each assigned patient; refer and question orders to the Radiologist before performing exams and contact ordering provider when there are discrepancies.
- Properly identify patients using two identifiers and assist patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures. Prepare patients for the procedure with full explanation and document on appropriate worksheets.
- Interview patients for a complete medical history; review EMRs to obtain pertinent clinical history and correlate other test results and lab data with exam.
- Assume responsibility for the exam from start until completion of dictated results.
- Prepare and administer IV contrast according to departmental protocols, recording contrast type and amount on request.
- Evaluate technical quality of images and consult with Radiologist if needed; recognize abnormal anatomy and process additional reconstructed images or measurements as instructed.
- Perform basic patient care functions; inform nursing personnel of changes in condition and initiate life support measures when necessary. Assist in code blue procedures during emergencies.
- Perform CT scanning and assist Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures practicing sterile technique and following infection control policies.
- Authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by licensed practitioners.
- Practice radiation safety principles for self, employees, patients, and family members and follow radiation safety standards.
- Report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel and maintain knowledge and skills to work safely in environments with bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease.
- Adhere to hospital fire and safety procedures and attend all required safety modules and in-service classes.
- Work accurately and timely during crisis and emergency situations; rotate shifts including call back, holidays, and weekends; adhere to attendance policy.
- Operate radiology computer system including entering orders and charging procedures/supplies; document contrast administration in the MAR.
- Maintain work area neat, orderly, and fully stocked; clean work areas to promote cleanliness.
- Assist other medical personnel such as anesthesia during exams or services in conjunction with CT scans.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Graduate from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by ARRT in Radiologic Technology.
- ARRT certification in Radiology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine and advanced registry from ARRT in CT scanning within one year of hire required.
- Current CPR certification required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Requires moderate to heavy physical effort lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stretching, twisting, squatting, or kneeling. May be exposed to various physical conditions and radiation; must use radiation safety guidelines.
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Mon - Thurs, 7:30pm - 6:00am night shifts. A sign-on bonus is offered to eligible candidates.
