Position Summary...
This Director, Specialty Compliance and Ethics - Global Marketplace and Ecommerce implements AI, machine learning, and other data science models to enhance and optimize our ecommerce compliance controls. The person in this role will partner with various teams including Compliance, Legal, Product and Tech, as well as our Data Science teams.
The Director leads the development and execution of compliance strategies to ensure adherence to evolving regulatory requirements. This person focuses on using the most current tech capabilities to implement item-specific policy at scale. Leveraging AI, we aim to make compliance assessment with the speed of our Marketplace business. The Director oversees monitoring and reporting on compliance performance, fosters a culture of integrity, and drives continuous improvement through innovative solutions.
About the team...
Our Global Marketplace and eCommerce Compliance team within Walmart is responsible for defining, enforcing and promoting policies, programs and products to ensure safe transactions and fostering consumer trust and compliance with the law across our online and marketplace businesses. Our team develops and enforces item policies that govern product eligibility on Walmart.com. Collaborating with legal and subject matter experts, we create item-specific guidelines and implement them at scale using AI, machine learning, and keyword algorithms. We continuously monitor policy effectiveness and provide actionable insights to business and technology partners to enhance control precision. This team plays a critical role in ensuring compliance and operational excellence by integrating advanced technologies with strategic policy management to support Walmart’s commitment to responsible and efficient marketplace operations.
What you'll do...
- Think strategically about control and model design
- Conduct item validation and model training to ensure accurate model recall and precision
- Draft guidelines to ensure clarity in policy implementation
- Train additional item review agents on policy
- Develop success metrics to track control performance
- Monitor site and ensure item compliance with established polices, rules, and guidelines
- Triage items and listings, this includes escalating items or rule issues, taking action on products, or providing feedback to improve or enhance rules, tools or processes
- Review and investigate item reports for gaps, trends or developing risks, this may include analysis of internal item data reports or cases, reviewing other sites or news for item trends, or working on annotations with machine learning models
- Support in process documentation, report generation, or coordinating implementation of new item risk initiatives, processes or workflows
What you'll bring...- Masters degree and/or 8+ years of related work experience in Compliance, Trust & Safety, risk management, operations, or Legal
- AI and data analysis experience
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- High degree of initiative and deadline-driven productivity
- Experience working with partners and teammates across different time zones and cultures
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with eCommerce, retail, compliance/legal ops, risk management, or content review/moderation
- Experience with AI or machine learning
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with people at a variety of levels
- Resourceful and intellectually curious mentality, not afraid to dig into issues or projects
- Experience with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, ServiceNow and Salesforce Familiar and comfortable working in gray areas or dealing with offensive content

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
