The position requires authorization to work in the US without sponsorship, passing a criminal background check, and occasional on-call work. Shift differential applies.
Purpose
Performs journey level work installing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing electrical systems.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, install, and replace building and equipment electrical/electronic systems up to 600 volts.
- Perform preventive maintenance using specialty equipment to test, measure, and correct deficiencies.
- Generate material lists, acquire materials, keep accurate records, and maintain daily reports.
- Inspect work for compliance with safety and building codes.
- Assist team members to achieve shop goals.
- Provide timely customer service and keep supervisors updated on work status.
- Participate in on-call program and complete paperwork accurately and timely.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three years experience as journey level electrician and troubleshooting electrical systems.
- Journeyman electrical license recognized by City of Austin.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or vocational/technical training.
- More than three years journey-level experience.
- Master Electrician license.
- Experience in another maintenance trade, stable work history, and experience at UT Austin or higher education institution.
- Completion of Leader Development Program.
Salary Range
$61,857 plus depending on qualifications, with shift differential of $4,639 per year.
Working Conditions
- Use of personal protective equipment, work in varied environmental conditions including extreme temperatures, chemicals, biohazards, electrical and mechanical hazards.
- Physical tasks include climbing stairs and ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs, manual dexterity, repetitive keyboard use.
- May work extended shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and in confined spaces, elevated areas.
- Essential personnel status during emergencies and university closures.
Work Shift
- Shift between 3:00 PM and 1:30 AM Monday-Friday.
- 40 hour work week, five 8-hour days or four 10-hour days.
- Possible overtime, weekends, and holidays.
