Functions and Responsibilities
Strategy & Technical Direction
• Define and own global equipment, automation, and process strategies aligned with business and technology roadmaps.
• Establish and approve URS frameworks, design philosophies, and standard architectures.
• Drive platforming, standardization, and harmonization of equipment and processes across sites and BUs.
• Lead evaluation and adoption of new technologies, materials, PLC/automation platforms, and digital manufacturing solutions.
Enterprise Capital & Program Leadership
• Serve as technical authority for large, complex, or multi-site capital programs.
• Provide executive-level costing, risk, and feasibility assessments for major investments.
• Influence network and site strategy, ensuring long-term sustainability and scalability.
• Own technical decision-making for non-standard or high-risk solutions.
Supplier & Governance Ownership
• Act as global interface to strategic suppliers, shaping sourcing and technology strategy.
• Set expectations for vendor performance, technical capability, lifecycle support, and IP protection.
• Approve technical content of vendor contracts and tooling strategies.
• Lead governance for supplier technical issues and escalations.
Validation, Risk & Design Governance
• Define qualification and validation strategies (FAT/SAT/IQ/OQ/PQ/PVAL) for critical systems.
• Chair or approve technical design reviews, FMEAs, and risk mitigation plans.
• Ensure global consistency in quality, safety, reliability, and compliance.
• Set expectations for documentation rigor and traceability.
Organizational Leadership
• Serve as a trusted advisor to Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Business leadership.
• Mentor and develop Senior and Staff-in-progress engineers, strengthening EDI capability.
• Lead cross-BU forums in assembly, automation, equipment modernization, and innovation.
• Represent GIE EDI in audits, governance boards, and enterprise initiatives.
Post-Ramp Performance & Continuous Improvement
• Own post-ramp performance governance for critical equipment platforms.
• Drive systemic improvements in OEE, reliability, yield, cost, and lifecycle management.
• Translate lessons learned into next-generation standards and designs.

Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Manufacturing, or equivalent). Equivalent combinations of advanced hands-on technical expertise, demonstrated leadership, and years of service may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering experience, with demonstrated leadership in equipment design, automation, and process integration within high-volume manufacturing environments. Strong preference for experience supporting automated manufacturing and packaging systems; experience in medical devices, in-vitro diagnostics, or pharmaceutical manufacturing is highly valued.
- Proven track record of leading the introduction of new equipment and technologies into manufacturing, including sustained post-ramp performance support. Demonstrated end-to-end understanding of capital programs spanning concept development, scoping, budgeting, URS development, supplier quoting, capital proposals, vendor management, installation, qualification, validation, and production ramp-up.
- Extensive experience driving process improvement, modernization, and automation initiatives, delivering measurable improvements in OEE, quality, cost, scalability, and reliability through equipment and process design excellence.
- Strong working knowledge of labeling, printing, and barcode specifications, including regulatory considerations and integration into automated manufacturing and packaging systems; experience performing packaging and labeling cost analyses to support business case development and standardization initiatives.
- Operates with general direction and significant autonomy, independently defining technical approaches, resolving complex problems, and driving solutions aligned with GIE EDI strategies and standards.
- Deep technical expertise in complex manufacturing equipment and tooling systems, including mechanical design, automation, PLC programming, and controls integration. Ability to evaluate, influence, and approve equipment architectures and design approaches.
- Advanced proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks or equivalent), with the ability to review, guide, and approve vendor and internal designs for compliance, manufacturability, and standardization.
- Strong technical project leadership skills, including planning, organization, execution, and oversight of capital budgets related to equipment, tooling, molds, and verification activities.
