
Under general supervision, the Hospice Aide is responsible for delivering specific aspects of patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Care needs and visit frequency are indicated in the Hospice Aide Plan of Care.
Education:
High School diploma or GED.
Licensure:
Current registration with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Licensed driver with insured automobile.
Experience:
Previous experience in an acute care or home care setting.
Skills:
Knowledge of Hospice Philosophy; Oral and written communication skills; Skills managing issues related to death/dying; Ability to work independently; Effective communication with facility staff; Proficiency with hand-held communication devices and electronic documentation; Empathy for the ill, injured, frail, and impaired.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Personal care (baths, oral hygiene, feeding etc.); Safety needs of patients; Meal planning and preparation; Taking and recording vital signs; Skin care to prevent breakdown; Reporting patient's condition changes; Assisting with ambulation and exercises; Light laundry and maintaining cleanliness; Providing respite for patient's family/caregiver.
