HPC Data Storage Engineer

The Aerospace Corporation is a leading provider of technical expertise for the nation's space programs, operating as a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC). The organization is hiring a High-Performance Computing (HPC) Data Storage Engineer (Site Reliability Engineer Staff III/IV) to join the Computational Services team responsible for overseeing HPC storage systems both on-premises and in the cloud.

Job Summary:

This role involves developing and implementing data management for HPC environments, providing technical HPC support to engineers and scientists, installing and maintaining HPC file systems such as Lustre, optimizing storage system cost and performance, ensuring data protection and security, monitoring and tuning performance, managing quotas and allocations, and implementing data lifecycle management.

Work Model: Full-time position based in El Segundo, CA or Chantilly, VA, requiring 100% onsite work.

Responsibilities include:

• Supporting HPC Linux compute clusters and large shared-memory systems.
• Maintaining HPC file system infrastructure with security patching and improvements.
• Developing efficient data management policies to handle petabytes of data.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure mission success of critical national space assets.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• 5-7+ years in Linux system administration within an enterprise HPC environment.
• Strong understanding of Linux, networking, storage systems including NAS, SAN, object storage.
• Experience with parallel file systems like Lustre and data protection strategies.
• Proficiency with scripting and automation tools (Ansible, Puppet).
• Security certifications (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent) and active security clearance required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud HPC storage and tiered storage solutions.
• Familiarity with HPC data management strategies and quota implementations.
• Leadership capabilities including mentoring and leading cross-functional teams.

Compensation: Salary range of $135,000 to $228,000 annually, based on factors like education, experience, and skills.
