The Junior Sustainability Designer will work closely with MEP engineering and other design teams to implement green building technologies and strategies. Responsibilities include analysis of daylighting and solar radiation, energy simulations, understanding heat transfer basics, assessing renewable technology applicability, and staying informed on green building rating systems such as LEED. The role involves preparing sustainability presentations and reports, performing graphic tasks, and supporting integrated design team efforts.
Position Responsibilities
- Collaborate with MEP engineering and design studios to deliver and document green building technologies and strategies.
- Perform daylighting and solar radiation analysis for building and master planning projects.
- Conduct energy simulations to assess overall building energy performance.
- Understand basics of heat transfer impacting envelope design and perform calculations related to renewable technologies.
- Stay updated on sustainable design, green building activities, LEED rating systems, and emerging sustainability rating systems.
- Create sustainability presentations and written reports.
- Perform graphic tasks as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, environmental engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
- LEED accreditation preferred.
- Knowledge of sustainable and green building design and construction.
- Experience with LEED or similar green building rating systems.
- Ability to perform independent research.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in integrated design teams.
- Experience with building simulation tools (e.g., EnergyPlus, Radiance, Diva, Ecotect, CFD software).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite; BIM experience preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range typically from $68,000 to $75,000, based on experience, qualifications, location, and education.
