Maintenance Mechanic

Under general supervision of the Maintenance Foreman, performs preventative maintenance, operational functions and repairs to building systems, utilities and industrial machinery in strict accordance with established safety practices procedures. Knowledge of major systems listed below:

• Steam systems
• Boiler or Combined Heat and Power Plant maintenance
• Compressed air systems
• Plumbing systems / underground piping
• Electrical systems up to and including 480 volts, emergency generators, and UPS equipment
• Steam driven mechanical equipment

Position Requirements

• Minimum two years of technical school training or equivalent in an industrial maintenance program and three years of professional industrial maintenance experience in two or more of the above categories, or
• Minimum five years of professional experience in industrial maintenance with expertise in two or more of the above categories.
• Experience in predictive maintenance processes and methodologies is desired
• Good knowledge and use of a PC are required
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Good skills in oral and written communications
• May need weekend and shift work to support operational needs.
• Employees are responsible for maintaining an acceptable attendance record.
• Complies with all Laboratory and Division Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) policies, work rules, and safe work practices

This is a union position. The hourly wage is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between the union and Argonne. As a Maintenance Mechanic II the rate is $35.79, as a Maintenance Mechanic I the rate is $43.83 per hour. Knowledge and experience will determine if a candidate will be placed as a level I or a level II.

The expected hiring range for this position is $43.83-$44.03.
