Job Description
Major Responsibilities:
Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care.
Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).
Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking. Conducts Point of Care testing per standing order/provider order. Completes CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards.
Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
Performs other duties such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
Cross-trained to perform duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice within the Medical Assistant scope.
Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately. Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order and stocked.
Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care and assess patient needs based on growth and development principles.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or structured military clinical training per DD214, or EMT certification depending on location.
Certification / License
Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
Successful completion of Atrium Health's competency assessment.
Experience
No experience required.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within Medical Assistant scope after competency.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows OS navigation, electronic mail, and EMR systems.
Strong customer service skills supporting positive patient experiences.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
Capability to lift 35 pounds without assistance; use patient handling equipment for heavier lifts.
Correct functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch ability.
Exposure to hazards such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids; use protective gear as needed.
Operates all necessary equipment to perform the job.
Additional Details
Full-time position with 40 hours per week, weekdays schedule.
Sign-on bonus eligible based on eligibility.
Benefits eligible.
Pay range: $21.45 - $32.20 per hour.
