Job Description
Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physicians, PA, or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care, and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
- Prepares the examination room and escorts patient into the room, cleans examination room after exam completion.
- Maintains efficient patient flow and proper preparation for patient visits.
- Prepares pertinent information needed for patient visits and communicates care consistent with patient's needs.
- Answers telephones appropriately, directs calls or takes messages, schedules appointments accurately as per guidelines.
- Stocks examination rooms with necessary supplies and assists in ordering and maintaining supplies.
- Reconciles encounters daily and accurately according to policy guidelines.
- Communicates problems, concerns, or issues promptly to supervisors or managers.
- Obtains vital signs and documents appropriately in EHR.
- Reviews and updates medication lists and documents allergies; understands prescription control and refill procedures.
- Employs tasking in EHR appropriately and enters orders, schedules appointments in Practice Management System and EHR.
- Provides referrals and consult orders timely and adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications and medical waste disposal.
- Maintains proficiency with department-specific equipment, troubleshoots, and reports malfunctions.
- Facilitates transition of care to UCC/Hospital and demonstrates flexibility with work schedules.
- Performs scribing services and other duties as assigned, including recognizing additional needed tasks.
Physical Job Requirements:
- Physical mobility and agility including movement and dexterity.
- Endurance for continuous typing, prolonged standing/bending, and walking.
Environmental Risks:
- Exposure to allergens such as dust, mold, and pollen.
- Potential exposure to combative patients or visitors.
Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:
- High School Graduate/GED or equivalent required; Associate Degrees preferred.
- 0-1 year related work experience required; 2-4 years preferred.
- Medical Assistant certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or within 30 days of hire required.
- Ability to communicate in English effectively, organize multiple tasks, basic computer proficiency, and ability to commute to satellite offices required.
Travel:
- May require travel to satellite locations as needed.
Pay Range: $0.00 - $0.00 Hourly. The compensation range is based on industry standards and is influenced by experience and location.
