Major Responsibilities:
- Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care.
- Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).
- Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
- Performs lab related duties including venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking; completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing.
- Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
- Performs other duties such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
- Maintains effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
- Maintains a clean work environment ensuring equipment is cleaned and stocked appropriately.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served across the life span.
Minimum Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured clinical military training or equivalent experience depending on division.
Certification / License
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required or obtained within 45 days depending on location.
- Successful completion of Atrium Health's competency assessment.
Experience
- No prior experience required.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope upon competency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient computer skills including electronic medical records.
- Strong customer service orientation.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Physical ability to perform a range of activities such as sitting, standing, lifting up to 35 pounds, and exposure to hazards needing protective equipment.
Work Schedule: 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, 40 hours per week, full time.
Compensation: Pay range $21.45 - $32.20 per hour, sign-on bonus eligible.
