Major Responsibilities:
- Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice, policies, procedures, and maintain training and competency by specialty when providing patient care.
- Rooming and visit tasks including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings such as depression, suicide, falls, and social drivers of health.
- Assist providers or perform ordered procedures.
- Perform laboratory related duties: venipuncture, specimen collection, labeling, packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, results tracking, Point of Care testing (POCT), and complete CLIA-approved tests adhering to standards.
- Administer medications and vaccines safely following rights of medication administration.
- Other duties: medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory logs, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
- Demonstrate effective communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
- Maintain a clean work environment ensuring equipment cleaning and adequate stocking.
- Assist with onboarding and training other teammates as needed.
- Serve as role champion or committee member when applicable.
- Demonstrate age-appropriate care knowledge and skills across the patient lifespan.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited or approved Medical Assistant program or two years of verifiable full-time Medical Assistant experience within the last 5 years (varies by division).
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Certification as CMA or RMA from recognized national organizations (e.g., AAMA, NHA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA).
- Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within 1 year in select areas.
- Successful completion of Atrium Health competency assessment.
- Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within Medical Assistant scope after competency demonstration.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to maintain rapport with patients, team members, and physicians.
- Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows OS navigation, email, and electronic medical records systems.
- Customer service skills supporting a positive patient experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
- Lift up to 35 pounds unassisted; use patient handling equipment for heavier lifts with assistance.
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with fine-hand manipulation skills required.
- Exposure to hazards including mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids; protective clothing and equipment required as needed.
- Must operate all necessary job equipment.
Schedule Details:
Clinic hours Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm. Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Compensation: Pay range $22.50 - $33.75 per hour.
Sign-on Bonus: $2500 for external hires.
