Job Summary:
Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is hiring a Mobile Trailer Mechanic I responsible for performing DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, and light repairs on trailers at customer sites. This role includes working on trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers, with supervision from higher-level technicians as needed. This position does not provide emergency roadside repairs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
- Manage parts inventory on company-issued service truck and maintain service vehicle through pre/post trip inspections.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs in the field.
- Respond to dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, and jacks.
- Document work performed and upload information using company-issued iOS device and proprietary application.
- Complete DOT forms and related documentation timely and accurately.
- Work independently managing own schedule and maintaining productivity standards.
- Obtain necessary parts from approved vendors and communicate effectively with management and support teams.
- Adhere to company safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Maintain positive working relationships with customers and vendors.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED with up to 2 years of related experience.
- Own hand tools necessary to perform job duties.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification and 608/609 certification within 18 months.
- Ability to pass DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and physical (or hold valid DOT medical card).
- Minimum age 21 and valid state driver's license with the ability to maintain Driver Qualification File.
Work Conditions:
- Day shift with 100% travel required, working at customer sites nationwide.
- Role is individual contributor and may work remotely but must live in specified service regions.
Compensation & Benefits:
Hourly base pay between $21.54 - $32.31, varying by location and experience. Additional compensation may include commissions and incentives.
