Job Summary:
The Mobile Trailer Mechanic I at Cox Automotive's Fleet Services is responsible for performing DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and other trailer-related mechanical work at customer sites. This on-site role does not include emergency roadside repairs. The technician assists higher-level technicians and continues learning advanced mechanical skills.
Duties:
- Comply with safety operating practices and procedures.
- Manage parts inventory and company-issued service truck.
- Maintain and operate service vehicle with safety checks and inspections.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and minor repairs including trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, liftgates, and brake chambers.
- Respond to call center dispatched unscheduled services.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
- Document work performed and parts used on Repair Orders with company iOS device.
- Complete DOT and other required forms accurately and timely.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors.
- Work independently and manage own schedule.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations and participate in company safety training.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED with up to 2 years related experience.
- Must possess necessary hand tools.
- Obtain ASE T8 certification and 608/609 certification within 18 months.
- Must pass DOT background screening and physical or present valid DOT medical card.
- Must be at least 21 years old with valid driver's license and ability to maintain Driver Qualification File.

This role requires 100% travel and is a day shift position with the option to work remotely but requires living in the specified city, state, or region.
