Job Description
What you'll do:
The NPI Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting all New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by ensuring that customer requirements, Eaton Quality Management System standards, and quality deliverables are fully met throughout the APQP/NPI cycle. The role focuses on preventive quality planning, risk identification, documentation accuracy, and cross-functional coordination to secure a robust and defect-free product launch. Reporting to the Quality Manager, the NPI Quality Engineer contributes directly to product and process readiness, quality performance during early-life stages, and continuous improvement across the value stream.
Support and execute APQP deliverables for new products, ensuring full alignment with customer requirements, EQMS processes, and internal quality expectations.
Capture, define, and communicate customer requirements and critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristics throughout the NPI cycle.
Lead or participate in preventive quality activities such as DFMEA, Process Flow, Control Plans, and design/process reviews to identify and mitigate risks early in the development process.
Prepare, review, and validate PPAP documentation, First Article Inspection (FAI) reports, and other required quality evidence for product release.
Monitor and analyze quality performance during prototype and pilot builds, initiating corrective and preventive actions as needed.
Maintain accuracy of quality documentation including PFMEA, Control Plans, Work Instructions, and quality records throughout the NPI lifecycle.
Participate in internal audits, process audits, and customer-related reviews where applicable to NPI deliverables.
Lead or support problem-solving activities (e.g., 8D, A3) to address quality issues arising during the development and launch phases.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders such as R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, Program Management, and Production to ensure seamless launch readiness.
Capture lessons learned, contribute to continuous improvement activities, and support the establishment of best practices for future product introductions.
Track and report NPI-related quality KPIs, including launch FPY, early-life defects, documentation completeness, and risk mitigation closure.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Materials, or Quality Engineering.
Minimum 5 years of experience in Quality Engineering, New Product Introduction (NPI), APQP processes, or manufacturing environments.
Skills:
Experience in Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear production or in a closely related field (e.g., electromechanical assembly, power distribution equipment, electrical systems manufacturing) is highly preferred."
Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, and core quality tools.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Understanding of problem-solving tools such as 8D, A3, and root cause analysis.
Familiarity with EQMS processes, design reviews, DFSS concepts, and quality documentation requirements.
Experience with FAT/FAI or customer audits is a plus.
Good command of English (written and spoken)."
