The Perinatal Sonographer participates in the care of the patient under the direct supervision of the Physician and in collaboration with the healthcare team by performing various fetal examinations, assisting in invasive procedures, reporting results of sonographic examinations, and ensuring patient safety and comfort during ultrasound procedures. This full-time position offers a 4-day work week to promote work-life balance without compromising patient care. Responsibilities include daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, equipment performance, clinical sonographic quality assessment, and adherence to privacy policies and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Perform all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
- Acquire and analyze ultrasound data using diagnostic technologies.
- Meet examination components as defined by department protocols and AIUM guidelines.
- Greet patients, explain procedures, prepare patients for examinations.
- Verify requisitions and interview patients to gather relevant history.
- Conduct fetal exams including 1st trimester ultrasound, nuchal translucency measurement, detailed anatomic surveys, and others.
- Assist perinatologists in invasive procedures such as amniocentesis.
- Provide summary findings and prepare preliminary reports on the Viewpoint system.
- Collaborate with maternal-fetal medicine physicians, genetic counselors, nurses, and other providers.
- Maintain equipment and report failures, perform clerical duties, and ensure room preparation and cleanliness.
- Assume responsibility for patient safety and respond to emergencies appropriately.
- Protect Personal Health Information and comply with privacy policies and HIPAA.
- Promote open communication among team members and participate in continuing education.
Minimum Requirements
- Completion of an approved curriculum in diagnostic medical sonography or equivalent educational background.
- Current registration or registry-eligible by ARDMS in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
- Preferred prior OB experience or recent internship; Associates degree preferred; new graduates welcome.
- Basic Life Support and CPR certification preferred.
- Nuchal translucency certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
