Job Description Summary:
Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Job Description:
- Performs all aspects of pheresis procedure and plasma collection including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect in compliance with SOPs.
- Performs venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process according to SOPs and FDA guidelines.
- Evaluates vein performance, makes necessary adjustments to ensure donation efficiency and donor safety.
- Educates new donors about therapeutic products, screening, appointment systems, fees, policies, and nutrition.
- Monitors donor reactions and notifies staff as needed.
- Records incidents during pheresis process using PDA.
- Performs equipment calibrations and maintenance checks; troubleshoots failures and creates incident reports.
- Monitors donor flow to ensure continuous turnover and alerts leadership of issues.
- Collects arm or whole blood samples.
- Accurately records donor data in electronic management systems.
- Maintains clean work environment; follows Health Safety & Environmental and OSHA policies.
- Protects confidentiality of personnel, donor and center information.
- May be cross-trained in other areas; bilingual skills may be required.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- Internal employees must have completed CSL Plasma Phlebotomy training.
- External candidates require minimum 6 months phlebotomist experience; 1 year preferred.
- Preferred 12 months experience in medical or health care environment or equivalent education/experience.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to complete routine forms and communication.
- Ability to follow oral/written instructions.
- Ability to see and speak with customers and observe equipment.
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Fast paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, bloodborne pathogens.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment required.
- May require overtime and extended hours.
