Job Summary

The Geffen laboratory at University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Research Specialist A/B with an interest in systems neuroscience. Research focuses on neuronal circuits involved in sound perception and auditory learning, with applications to mouse models of autism spectrum disorders.

Job Description

The Research Specialist A/B will conduct and support multiple research projects using techniques such as electrophysiology, optogenetics, imaging, and behavioral methods with rodents. Core responsibilities include behavioral training, assisting with experimental protocols, brain tissue processing, data and lab log organization, and general lab maintenance. Accurate record-keeping and strong organizational skills are essential.

• For Research Specialist B: conduct research, data analysis, experimental design, prepare presentations, participate in lab management, oversee reagents and equipment, train and supervise lab members.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Research Specialist A requires a Bachelor's degree in life sciences or psychology with 0-1 year experience or equivalent. Research Specialist B requires a Bachelor's degree plus 1-3 years experience, with Master's degree preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and troubleshooting skills are expected with training provided.

Working Conditions
