Administrative Functions
- Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing the day to day functions of nursing activities in accordance with current rules and regulations.
- Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures for nursing services.
- Ensure compliance of nursing personnel with procedures and assist in quality assurance programs.
- Participate in facility surveys and review discharge plans.
Committee Functions
- Attend various facility committee meetings and provide reports regarding nursing service programs.
- Implement committee recommendations as directed.
Personnel Functions
- Ensure adequate staffing levels of nurses and nursing assistants for quality care.
- Develop work assignments, supervise staff, conduct performance evaluations, and maintain disciplinary standards.
- Monitor absenteeism and resolve departmental issues.
Nursing Care Functions
- Inform personnel of new admissions and ensure readiness of rooms.
- Make rounds with physicians, assist residents and families in care planning.
- Provide and supervise direct nursing care, monitor medication administration, and maintain treatment areas.
- Report problems and assist in corrective actions.
Staff Development
- Participate in training programs and continuing education to maintain professional licensure and provide instruction to nursing staff.
Safety and Sanitation
- Assist in developing safety standards and infection control programs.
- Monitor compliance with personal protective equipment and hygiene procedures.
- Ensure clean and safe nursing service areas and conduct fire safety drills.
Equipment and Supply Functions
- Recommend equipment and supply needs and maintain safe operation procedures.
- Monitor efficient use and proper storage of supplies and medications.
Care Plan and Assessment Functions
- Participate in development and review of resident care plans and assessments.
- Ensure nursing care aligns with residents' needs and wishes.
Budget and Planning Functions
- Recommend adjustments to nursing services and equipment needs in response to economic conditions.
- Report suspected fraud related to nursing services.
Supervisory Requirements
- Assist in overall supervision and management of nursing staff with delegated authority and accountability.
Qualifications
- Must have Nursing Degree from accredited institution and at least 2 years experience preferably in long term care.
- Current, active RN license and CPR certification required.
- Knowledge of nursing practices, laws, and regulations is essential.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to move throughout workday, manage physical demands such as lifting 25 pounds, and cope with mental and emotional stress.
- Work involves office and nursing areas, frequent interruptions, exposure to infectious diseases, chemicals, and potentially hostile individuals.
- May involve extended hours, emergency call back, and participation in continuing education.
