Job Summary:
Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
Primary Responsibilities
- Uses standards of medical-surgical nursing practice to increase quality of care and quality of life for patients and families by evaluating nursing practice effectiveness.
- Establishes effective relationships and advocates for patients and families to facilitate unique care plans.
- Develops and implements nursing care plans using the nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Creates assessment and management strategies considering physical, cultural, social, economic, developmental, and spiritual factors.
- Demonstrates knowledge of illness impact on patients' diverse statuses.
- Coordinates and collaborates with inter-professional teams and communities to assess needs and provide care.
- Uses effective communication for culturally sensitive and ethical collaborative decision-making.
- Educates patients and families on health promotion and comfort measures.
- Mentors and serves as a role model for colleagues and students fostering a healthy work environment.
- Applies evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in nursing care tailored to patient age and clinical needs.
- Maintains alertness and safety in practice.
- May perform point of care testing according to policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing or equivalent education for licensing.
Experience:
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and data entry.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling objects (0-25 lbs), occasional heavier lifting, including moving patients.
- Use of speech, vision, hearing, and smell for communication and safety.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive movements.
Required Professional Licenses and Certifications:
State specific: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin require Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association and Registered Nurse (RN) licensure relevant to the state or compact state.
