Job Summary:
Uses the nursing process in care delivery and provides nursing leadership for other patient care personnel. Circulates independently on complex cases.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills in providing care for the perioperative patient through comprehensive preoperative assessment, planning and implementing individualized nursing interventions, and evaluating the effectiveness and modifying interventions as needed.
- Prioritizes multiple complex patient and physician needs to delegate and coordinate surgical team care to maximize patient outcomes.
- Coordinates patient care assignments considering staff competencies, patient condition, equipment, infection control, safety, and supervision availability.
- Communicates effectively with patients, staff and physicians to anticipate needs and respond to complaints related to patient care.
- Maintains and enhances professional clinical skills by seeking learning opportunities and staying current with nursing advances.
- Serves as a consultant and mentor to other nursing staff and technicians.
- Demonstrates advanced clinical judgment in multiple surgical specialty areas.
- Takes initiative on special projects to improve department processes.
- Adheres to professional nursing standards and the ANA Code of Ethics.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Graduate of accredited nursing school or educational equivalency for licensing.
Experience: Two years advanced surgical experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Constant use of speech, standing, and walking.
- Frequent lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects 0-25 lbs, sitting, reaching, data entry, vision, smell, and hearing tasks.
- Occasional lifting 25-50 lbs, patient moving, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, driving.
- Rare crawling and running.
Required Professional Licenses/Certifications:
- Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA).
- Registered Nurse licensure depending on state (Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin) or Compact State RN license.
