About the team
The Communications team at Careem plays a pivotal role in shaping the brand narrative and reputation across the region, both externally and within the organisation. We work cross-functionally with leadership, business verticals, and stakeholders to develop and deliver compelling stories that reflect our purpose of simplifying lives and building an awesome organisation. Based in Dubai, this role sits within the Communications function, serving as a key voice for Careem across earned and owned media channels as well as internal channels that keep colleagues informed, engaged, and inspired.
About the role
We are looking for a Senior Communications Specialist to join our Communications team in Dubai. This role spans both external and internal communications. Externally, you will help craft and execute strategic communication initiatives that support Careem's business objectives across its services, including ride-hailing, food delivery, payments, and quick commerce. This covers developing external narratives, managing media relations, and building brand affinity in priority markets. Internally, you will help shape how Careem communicates with its colleagues, supporting leadership communications, all-hands moments, and campaigns that bring our purpose and priorities to life across the organisation.
What youll do
- Develop and execute external communications strategies that amplify Careems mission, services, and impact
- Manage media relations including press outreach, press release drafting, and maintaining strong relationships with journalists and influencers across priority markets
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Product, Marketing, Policy, etc.) to align messaging and ensure consistent communication
- Handle crisis communication and reputation management in partnership with senior leadership
- Track media coverage and create regular reporting to assess effectiveness and guide improvements
- Support executive visibility through media interviews, speaking opportunities, and authored content
- Execute external and internal communications strategies that amplify Careems mission, services, and impact
- Manage media relations including press outreach, press release drafting, and maintaining strong relationships with journalists and influencers across priority markets
- Support internal communications, including leadership emails, all-hands content, org announcements, and campaigns that keep colleagues informed and engaged
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Product, Marketing, Policy, People, etc.) to align messaging and ensure consistent communication across external and internal channels
- Handle crisis communication and reputation management in partnership with senior leadership
- Track media coverage and internal engagement, creating regular reporting to assess effectiveness and guide improvements
- Support executive visibility through media interviews, speaking opportunities, authored content, and internal leadership moments
What youll need
- 5-7 years of experience in communications, public relations, or journalism, preferably within a high-growth tech company or leading PR agency
- Proven experience developing and executing strategic communications plans across multiple markets
- Strong writing, storytelling, and editorial skills with an ability to translate complex topics into compelling narratives
- Excellent media network and relationship management skills, particularly in the MENA region
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset
- Fluency in both English and Arabic is required
Additional Details:
- Based in Dubai, reporting into the Communications function
- Collaborating with teams across the Careem platform in the UAE, KSA, Egypt, Pakistan, and Jordan
- This is a 1-year, fixed-term contract position with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs.
