How you will create an impact

The Senior Manager, Risk Events and Issues Management is a senior Line 2 role responsible for the end-to-end oversight of operational risk events and risk and control issues across Australia and New Zealand. The role will lead the enhancement and operationalisation of the risk event and issues management frameworks and registers, quality-assures event investigation and issue identification led by Line 1, tracks remediation through to closure, and provides reporting and escalation to the Chief Risk Officer, ANZ (CRO) and relevance governance committees. This is a 12-month engagement reporting directly to the CRO, with scope to also support broader risk maturity initiatives alongside other Line 2 Enterprise Risk team members as needed.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Own and maintain the risk event management framework and policy, and the enterprise risk event register, across the Australian and New Zealand businesses.
• Quality-assure risk event capture, classification, and root cause analysis undertaken by Line 1, including financial impact, near-miss, and customer impact assessment.
• Localise, own and maintain the issues management framework, policy, and supporting standards, ensuring they remain fit for purpose across the Australian and New Zealand businesses.
• Maintain the enterprise issues register, ensuring issues are appropriately logged, rated for severity, and assigned clear ownership and due dates.
• Work with Line 1 issue and event owners to ensure remediation plans are well-designed, appropriately resourced, and address root cause rather than symptoms.
• Track remediation actions through to closure, proactively following up on overdue or at-risk items and escalating where required.
• Oversee events and issues arising from regulatory actions, reviews, and supervisory engagement with APRA, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ), and other relevant regulators, ensuring they are captured and tracked through the relevant registers.
• Coordinate with Line 1 and other Line 2 functions on regulatory remediation programs, ensuring commitments are tracked and evidenced to a standard suitable for regulatory scrutiny.
• Prepare regular risk event and issues reporting for the CRO, risk committees, and the Board, including themes, aging, severity trends, financial impact, and overdue items.
• Build strong working relationships with Line 1 stakeholders across Australia and New Zealand to support a proactive, partnership-based approach to event and issue resolution.

What you’ll need to succeed

• Significant experience in risk event or incident management, issues management, operational risk, or risk advisory roles within general insurance or broader financial services, across Australia and/or New Zealand.
• Strong working knowledge of CPS 230 and the broader APRA prudential framework (e.g. CPS 220), including incident notification requirements; familiarity with RBNZ requirements highly regarded.
• Demonstrated experience managing risk event and issue/remediation lifecycles, including root cause analysis and closure validation.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to constructively challenge Line 1 on event investigation quality and remediation pace.
• Experience supporting regulatory engagement, remediation programs, or supervisory action responses.
• Excellent written communication skills, including experience preparing committee and Board-level reporting.
• Relevant tertiary qualification; risk, governance, or audit-related certifications (e.g. GAICD, CPRM) advantageous.
