At Lilly, the Senior Principal Engineer - Automation Engineering plays a pivotal role within the Automation Engineering Department at the Eli Lilly Medicine Foundry. The engineer provides automation support across operating areas and capital projects to ensure a reliable and compliant manufacturing environment. The role focuses on technical leadership, mentorship, project planning, and process control implementation with responsibilities including leading automation engineering projects, developing control systems, supporting commissioning, maintaining validated systems, and promoting automation for productivity and compliance improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Mentor process control team in design, implementation, and commissioning.
- Lead process control work implementation and coordination.
- Develop and implement Automation Engineering Project Plans.
- Oversee site area leads and system integrators for design specifications and software.
- Lead design reviews, application software reviews, and factory acceptance tests.
- Provide status updates to Project Management.
- Design DCS software, coding, and testing.
- Troubleshoot and tune system integration across platforms.
- Maintain validated state of control systems per quality standards.
- Support automation for capital projects and new product introductions.
- Develop corporate contacts to leverage expertise.
Basic Requirements
- B.S. in Engineering with experience in Automation Engineering, preferably pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- 8+ years experience in Biopharma engineering, operations, or manufacturing.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with greenfield sites using SCADA, DCS, MES, LIMS, Site Historian systems, middleware.
- Experience in developing application interfaces for data communication and ETL.
- Commissioning and support of systems such as SCADA, DCS, MES, LIMS, Historian for interconnectivity.
- Ability to drive organizational decision-making.
