Eaton's IS VEH EMB division is currently seeking a Sr Test Engineer.
Position Overview:
In this role, the Lead Test Engineer is responsible for the execution of product testing, data acquisition and the reporting of component performance for Low Voltage Vehicle Controls products designed in Reynosa, MX. You will work with the internal product teams to understand testing requirements for various products. You will lead the test system build and validation of the completed test system. You will document the results and train lab technicians to run sample testing during prototype, design, and production validation testing. #LI-MB2
What you'll do:
In this function you will:
Work with a global cross-functional team to develop, launch new designs and provide sustaining support for switches, keypads, rotary encoder, and other commercial vehicle electrical products.Participate in the launch of new products following the Eaton PROLaunch stage-gate process.Conduct testing of product changes and new products in accordance with standards and customer requirements to confirm conformance.Support RFQ activities with estimates of hours and equipment needs for required testing.Interface with customers and other internal groups such as Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Test / Validation Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering as needed to answer questions, create technical presentations, product requirements, design assumptions etc.Participate in Continuous Improvement programs and activities such as Cost Out, IDEAS program, VA/VE, Lean events among others.Provides technical support to functional areas to solve issues, find root causes, and assemble action plans.Define specifications, develop, procure, and validate functional test solutions for NPI and production environment according to specification, requirements and standards of Engineering, Quality, and customer.Develop Statements of Work (SOW), capital appropriations, project timelines, Gantt chartsCollaborate with other departments to solve issues related to software or hardware associated with test equipmentProcure test fixtures and improvement/upgrades (CI) to existing test processes and equipmentOversee and manage test equipment calibration of all necessary test equipmentCollaborate with design engineering to set the number of samples, fixtures and test wire harnesses needed to complete the requested testing.Create and execute design verification test plans (DVP&R & PVP&Rs) (measure voltages, currents, signals, rise/ fall times etc.). Including Environmental tests; and when it is needed make test requests for EMC/EMI, Vibration, shipping test, etc.Create detailed test instructions based on test plans that will direct technicians how to carry out testing.Participate in problem-solving activities, leveraging methods like 8D, Fishbone, and 5 Why.times etc.).Support product builds, product launches, and production quality investigation as needed.Review and sign-off test setups prior to the start of testing that includes confirming proper calibration dates.Organize, analyze, and summarize testing data to incorporate into test reports.Interface with key stakeholders (Co-located, nationally, and internationally) in program management and engineering to ensure the completion of projects on time and on budget.Direct lab technician activities for test setup, execution, and reporting.Proactively implement, promote, and maintain a safe working environment, through diligence in accident prevention, investigation, equipment maintenance and Zero Incident culture enforcement.Maintain a collaborative working relationship with various internal groups (systems, electrical and software engineering, manufacturing, supplier development and quality) and external groups (customers, suppliers, etc).Support, communicate and reinforce the mission, values, and culture of the organization.Apply appropriate Eaton Business System (EBS) processes and problem-solving tools.Qualifications:Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Systems Engineering from an accredited institution requiredMinimum three (3) years of electrical and software development for test applications, controls, test automation, or test equipment design/development experience in new product development of automotive or industrial, transportation-based productsProficient with various software tools LabVIEW4, Python, C compilers, programming environments, programming stationsExperience in PLC programming and troubleshootingWorking knowledge of automotive and serial data protocols CAN, J1939, and LINWorking knowledge of GIT, Bitbucket, and GitHubBasic working knowledge of test equipment such as AC/DC electronic loads, AC/DC power supplies, DMMs, Keysight/NI DAQs, OscilloscopesWorking with Environmental Chambers and have experience in basic maintenance of Environmental chambers.Experience with shock & vibration testing, ESD testing, and use of Instron type equipment for force/travel measurement.Ability to read and convert between binary, decimal and hexadecimal numbersPreferred Qualifications:
3-5 years' experience with controls, software development, test automation, or test equipment design and developmentGood understanding of commercial vehicle markets, environmental requirements and related qualification testing required, including AIAG components (APQP, FMEA, PPAP, etc.)Working knowledge of automotive serial data protocols (e.g. CAN J1939, J1587, J1708, LIN, CANopen)Experience troubleshooting and problem-solving skills: RedX, 8D, Fishbone, PDCA, FRACASPlanning and scheduling development testing, including designing test equipment, building test harnesses, creating test strategies for both validation and production testing, writing procedures and reportsExperience working with PCBAs Microcontroller based product laboratory building, developing, and testing new productsExperience with troubleshooting test equipment and test systemsExperience using a CAD program for test system schematics and fixture design: AutoCAD Electric, and AltiumExperience using Power BI for data analysisExperience developing data acquisition and control systems using National Instruments, MATLABExperience writing clear and concise test procedures and SOPsLeading engineering tasks that include test equipment design, programming, and test script writing.Experience with discussion DFM / DFT topics with the Manufacturing plantExcellent communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical, and problem-solving skillsStrong ethics, values, as well as the ability to influence and impact others' decision makingWorking knowledge of automotive standards (SAE, ISO, IATF)Possess 90% fluency in written and spoken EnglishAll positions may require participation in video and in-person interviews as part of the hiring process.
