Virginia Tech: Summer Intern Opportunities

Virginia Tech is excited to offer a variety of 10-12 week summer internship opportunities for students pursuing degrees in areas such as engineering, computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, data analytics, business, finance, marketing, and related fields. This internship program provides meaningful, real-world experience across both technical and corporate functional areas within the organization.

Interns will be matched with teams where they can apply academic knowledge, develop skills, and contribute to impactful projects in roles including software development, electrical engineering, data analysis, systems engineering, cybersecurity, project coordination, finance, marketing, and operations.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support ongoing projects
• Assist in software development, IT support, or systems documentation
• Conduct data analysis and contribute to reporting or automation solutions
• Support business functions such as finance, marketing, HR, or operations
• Participate in internal meetings, planning sessions, and presentations
• Contribute to research, process improvement, or strategy development
• Present work and insights at the conclusion of the internship

Qualifications

Required

• Current undergraduate or graduate student at Virginia Tech
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship
• Ability to obtain and maintain applicable security clearance
• Strong academic performance and willingness to learn
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Professional attitude and growth mindset
• Proficiency in relevant tools/software (e.g., Python, Excel, SQL, Adobe)

Desired

• Interest in solving real-world problems through innovation and teamwork
• Prior internship, academic project, or leadership experience
• Availability to work 40 hours per week for 10-12 weeks during summer

This position is contingent on funding and may not be filled immediately. The pay range nationally for similar positions is $39,900 to $79,900 per year.
